Around this time last year we reported that a 5.7 kilogram giant puffball mushroom had been discovered out in Eastern Hungary. Well that’s last year’s news! Now, according to Blikk, some hikers in Tatabánya recently trudged home an óriáspöfeteg weighing in at 7.5 kilos. “We couldn’t believe our eyes,” one Sándor Péntek told the tabloid about the discovery, adding that the bag he had with him was not big enough to hold the thing, so he had to haul it home from the forest by hand. While Péntek said another, smaller giant ‘shroom he had found was yellow and sort of icky, this one was “very fresh and tasty.” The monstrum (pictured left) ended up feeding more than 25 people after being (you guessed it) battered and fried.
