Erős Pista (“EH-ROOSH PISH-TA”), which means “Strong Stevie,” is a popular brand of csípős (spicy) paprika paste produced by the Univer company. It is salty, and somewhere in the middle on the global “spiciness” scale, and often found on restaurant tables in Hungary. Because of the brand’s ubiquity, the name Erős Pista is now used generically, much like “Kleenex,” meaning that if you ask for it by name you may be brought another similar product. You will not, however, be brought a jar of Édes Anna, which is Spicy Steve’s very non-csípős “sister.”

Wow, I love this stuff. I visited Budapest, HU in the summer of 2006 and it was on the table at every restraunt so I tried it. I bought some to take home to the USA. I put it in chilli, soups, on meat, anything and it jazzes it up. Good stuff!
This is purely divine! It goes with everything – hot or cold dishes, and makes virtually anything taste great. I got a couple of jars from a hungarian in-law:ed relative, and now I’m running out! (Disaster). Found some more online at Amazon.com, but it feels like overkill to ship six jars from the U.S. to Sweden for $30… =)
This German company:http://ihr-ungarnspezialist.de/product_info.php/info/p8_Eroes-Pista—scharfes-Paprika-Pueree-UNIVER-200g.html/XTCsid/078edacb8e74580ad378026e4de5a08b
sends Hungarian specialties all over Europe, but probably the postage also is horrendous. Just look it up!
im in love with this stuff
i live in hungary sinds april 2011 so i can buy it every week in stead of twice a year!
i use it the most on my spread cheese sandwich and for my vegetarian pasta sauce.
