Eger, partly thanks to the red Bikavér blends, is one of the best known regions in Hungary. The Szépasszonyvölgye (“Valley of the Beautiful Women”), a long row of wine cellars serving cheap wines of varying quality, has also helped cement Eger in Hungary’s wine-drinking consciousness. Today, Eger produces some high-quality red and white wines from the likes of St. Andrea, Vilmos Thummerer, Béla Vincze and József Simon.
