Dobostorta (“DOE-BOSHE-TORE-TU”) was invented in the late 1800s by József Dobos, one of Hungary’s most famous pastry chefs. It is five layers of vanilla sponge cake, each smothered with chocolate butter-cream icing, and topped with thin wedges of caramel-glazed sponge cake.
