Dió is an important ingredient in a number of classic Hungarian cakes and other desserts, including the Esterházy Cake, the bejgli and the Grundel palacsinta. It is also used similarly to mák to fill baked goods or sprinkle on cooked pasta mixed with powered sugar (diós tészta).
