Diaspora Food News (II): Authentic Hungarian Restaurant Experience Now Available in Chicago

too-authentic.jpg

In other Hungarian food news from the world outside, we stumbled upon an interesting review in the Chicago Tribune's reader "feedback" area, for an eatery in the Chicago suburb of Hillside known as the Epicurean Hungarian Restaurant. See if this sounds just a little bit familiar:

Despite the restaurant being almost completely empty, the service was extremely slow. The food was simply poor- the gulash [sic] had nothing in common with the Hungarian classic except for the name - thin cold broth, with a few pieces of tough meat. Wiener schnitzel consisted mostly of cold coating, potatoes were bland and tasteless (and cold...) and there was no vegetable with the dish...

The only thing missing from making it a classic bad Budapest restaurant experience is the 10% automatic service charge. Which of course makes it worse than Budapest, because these days in America you are expected to tip at least 15%.

You realy don't have any Taste! Before you making any bad comments you should try to ask some other people for opnion!

Margaret-Who exactly are you talking to, the Chicago Tribune or Chew, because I really dont think the Trib reads Chew. Of course our author was clearly incorrect, as "potatoes were bland and tasteless" should have been "potatoes were over salty and inedible".

oops, this story is over 2 years old....who cares?
