Desszertek

Desserts

Hungary is known for its tasty and often elaborate desserts, especially the Austro-Hungarian style layer cakes. Outside of Hungary, the Dobostorta is probably the best-known of these. While you will generally find a good variety of these fancy types of desserts at the cukrászdák and kávéházak, there's a wide-range of Hungarian home-style desserts which are almost exclusively prepared at home. Many of the homemade desserts are yeast-raised, and include things like aranygaluska and darázsfészek, as well as cakes like diótorta. Popular restaurant desserts include rétes, Gundel palacsinta, mákos guba and Somlói galuska. In Hungary, other dessert-related words include édesség, sütemény, desszert and pékség.
