Desk Test: You Got Chocolate On My Okay Italia Pizza!

The Lowdown: Back in the culinary dark ages of 1970s America, a series of famous television advertisements for Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups spoofed the then-unusual-seeming combination of peanut butter and chocolate by having two people eating the two treats bumping into each other and mixing up the csoki and mogyoróvaj. After the inevitable cries of horror – You got chocolate in my peanut butter! You got peanut butter on my chocolate! – both sides quickly agree that the two great tastes “taste great together.” So why not try it with pizza and a bucket of the hazelnut-flavored Italian chocolate spread known as Nutella?

The “Nutella Lux pizza” pictured above not only contains enough Nutella to keep a village of Italians in breakfast for a week, but slices of strawberry and bananas. We guess this is what makes it “lux,” though there is no “standard” Nutella pizza on the Okay Italia menu. (It is also not Earth’s only Nutella pizza, as a quick search of the Interweb revealed.)

Now, as for whether all these great tastes taste great together, the answer depends on when and why you are eating the thing. It certainly works as a dessert curio, with the crunchy pizza panne base and nicely ripe fruit offsetting the cloying csoki. It even went down well after a feast of other, more traditional pizzas.

Otherwise, we’d suggest you steer clear of this one, because just the sight of it was enough to make one of our tasters look like she had just suffered a stroke, even though she hadn’t even had a single slice of brain hemorrhage.
