The Lowdown: Ordering an Indian is just about as British as eating fish and chips out of a newspaper, and with so many Brits now in Budapest, there is an increasing number of home delivery options. The latest addition is Indigo, but, at least on this evidence, curry lovers are better off sticking with more established providers, such as Kama Sutra and Kashmir, or even fast-food büfé Bombay Express, who also deliver.
But before we dial up the competition, our gripes about Indigo. First, and most importantly, we nearly starved by the time the food arrived – more than 90 minutes after we had ordered it. To make matters worse, we were teased by assurances that proved unfounded and lame excuses about the high volume of orders. It is not as if we are in Budakalász, either, our offices are a stone’s throw away from the Jókai utca restaurant. By the time the food did arrive, we would have happily eaten just about anything, and even then it all tasted pretty samey, or exactly what you would expect of a standard Indian take-away, except with too much salt. It was OK, but nothing more, and once they had totted up the bill, which came to over Ft 8,640, we were in no mood to be charitable.
