Demeter Leads the Pack in Hungary's Impressive Performance at French Wine Challenge
Hungarian wines brought in an impressive haul at the 34th annual Challenge International du Vin competition held in France last month, winning 7 gold, 17 silver and 18 bronze medals, deluxe.hu reports. Of the 42 awards received, 16 belonged to wines from the Eger region, of which 5 were won by the Demeter Pincészet, thus making Demeter and Eger the most successful among the Hungarians. Of his award winning wines, Demeter's 2009 Hanga, a mixture of 70% hárslevelű and 30% olaszrizling received the gold. Demeter revealed that the name Hanga received its name from a flower, but that it's also an old Hungarian name, which he also gave to his daughter. Impressive? Just a moment: in that "competition" (which is not a real competition with winners and losers but only a kind of exhibition) were awarded 222 gold, 451 silver and 545 bronze medals. Hungary was awarded approximately 3% of the prizes, which looks a lot less impressive. But wait! It was held in France! That French people gave any award to a foreign product IS impressive indeed, especially wine! They are so full of themselves that awarded 122 gold 238 silver and 313 bronze to (guess it...) French wines! More than half the total ! The whole thing is a typical French marketing stint, they are masters at that... They also gave 31 golds to Spain and only 11 to Italy (which is just plainly ridiculous) , and 9 golds to Chile but only 1 bronze IN TOTAL to USA. What a joke.
am a long time customer of the demeter pinceszet and they are regularly bringing home impressive foreign awards. xy is still my favorite from them.
