Dark Clouds Threaten Hungary's Big Wine Festival, '08 Vintage

diluted wineIf you're in Budapest, you can probably see for yourself that the weather outside is not particularly cheery, and may have heard that the misery is expected to last pretty much all weekend. This puts us in a minor funk for two reasons. The first is that the country's second-biggest annual wine-related event - the Budapest International Wine and Champagne Festival - is just getting rolling up on Buda's Castle Hill. The second reason is that the country's first-biggest annual wine-related event - the harvesting of the grapes that makes the wine that makes people go to things like wine festivals - may be adversely impacted by the current stretch of nasty weather. On the other hand, the worse the weather is, the fewer people there will be at the usually-thronged festival, and the easier it will be to get refills, so see you there.
