Csirkepörkölt

Chicken Stew

Csirkepörkölt, a version of paprikás csirke made without sour cream, is one of the best known traditional Hungarian dishes. It was among the top 10 in the main courses category in a 2010 online vote to find the nation’s favorite dishes.

Ingredients:
1 chicken or 5 chicken legs
1 pepper
1 tomato
1 large onion
1 tablespoon fat
Salt
Ground paprika

Method:
Wash the chicken and cut into small pieces. Finely chop the onion. Heat the fat in a pot, add onion and fry until glassy. Add paprika and meat and stir. Add de-seeded and chopped pepper and tomato and salt to taste. Cover and steam for approximately one hour. If the juice evaporates too much, add a small amount of water. Serve with galuska and savanyúság.
