While a common sight in Hungarian markets, cseresznye (“CH-RES-NEY”), or sweet cherry, is usually upstaged by its sour cousin, known as meggy. In addition to being used in desserts and sauces, cseresznye is distilled into pálinka (fruit brandy). It also lends its name to the fiery cseresznyepaprika.
