Closing Time: Sour Ending for Dolce Osteria

dolce-closes.jpg

Another month, another round of Budapest restaurant closings. Note that the below bits of bad news may not be entirely fresh, 100% true, or even bad! Also note that you can add to this list or leave your consolations in the comments below.

  • Reader K.G. wrote in to alert us that the Osteria Dolce closed after just three months in business on lower Király utca. Sad, because it was pretty sweet.
  • The once quite spiffy Malomtó over on Frankel Leó utca in District II seems to have also thrown in the towel. No idea what put the "mill pond" under, but they are not answering the phone and the website is down.
  • Also in central Buda, tapas challenger La Yerbabuena called it quits just as we were getting ready to finally go check it out.
  • Finally, Donatella's Kitchen hasn't closed, but has moved to the nearby New York Palace hotel. (We previously reportedly that they were going to open a second location there, rather than close the original spot, several blocks up a now much less happening Király utca.) Though the kitchen staff may end up wishing they had just closed, because according to the person who picked up the phone at the hotel, the restaurant now opens up every morning for breakfast at 6:00 a.m.

The döner next door must have been better.

A word of warning about the Doner next door.I asked for a Doner sandwich without salad. When i paid i was charged an extra 100huf for extra meat.Go figure that one out.You ask for something less and get charged extra.I told him i would not be back and i have kept my word.Nice Doner though.
