Ciao Budapest (IV): A Sicilian Offer You Might Not Be Able to Refuse
When we last checked in with the Lucullus Baráti Társaság, members of Hungary's leading culinary society were busy making a fusion dish of tarhonya (pasta) and 15 kilos of fresh Mauritanian camel meat. While you probably didn't get a chance to enjoy that particular feast, you can and should make it to their next dinner, especially if you, like us, can't get enough of Italian food.
The group's first-ever "Italian Dinner" will be held at the recently-opened Millenium da Pippo on Friday, June 15 at 19:30, and will be dedicated to the culinary delights of Sicily. (The plan is to explore all the various gastronomic wonders of Italy province by province, apparently starting from the bottom up; they also say that the restaurant itself is Sicilian, which we didn't really know.) Here's what the provisional menu looks like, though note that there may be changes/substitutions depending on the availability of certain key Sicilian ingredients:
- Tuna salad with tomatoes, lemon cream and capers
- Marinated sardines with bruschetta
- Clam soup with homemade pasta
- Macaroni with tuna casserole
- Eggplant-ricotta penne
- Palermo pasta with sardines and raisins
- Rabbit with Catania olives and white wine
- Scampi baked with Sicilian ham
- Breaded sardines Syracuse-style
- Cassta siciliana cake
- Typical summer dessert with ricotta
The price of the dinner is Ft 6,500 (€25.70) for one person, Ft 12,800 per couple and Ft 19,000 for three. For members of Lucullus Bt., the base price is Ft 5,800. (If you are interested in becoming a member, click here.) Drinks are not included in the price, and expect English to be seriously overshadowed by Hungarian and Italian. Those interested in attending are kindly asked to call 06-20-979-8991, or send e-mail to elnokseg@lucullusbt.hu before June 13 and state how many people are in their party. Organizers are also requesting those coming to the event to pay in advance via the association's bank account, which is 10700378-18412200-51100005 at CIB Bank.
