Carnivores and Nature Lovers Cool Off in Le Jardin de Paris

With the unbearable heat of summer upon is, it may be the perfect time for Jardin de Paris to make its first appearance on the Top 33 (that's an executive decision up to the boss). Even if the food and wine had been crap, this thoughtfully run-down garden would have charmed the pants off even the most committed foodie. Fortunately, the food and wine were both good, the portions were ample and the prices were hefty, but not as hefty as we had feared. So Ft 750 (€3) for a 0.4l beer is not cheap, but that is one of the world's better lagers (Veltins).

Although the selection of patés (Ft 1,900) and salmon (Ft 2,100) was disappointing and way overpriced, all four meat dishes came up with the goods. The delicious grey cattle (szürkemarha steak above was a pricey Ft 6,500 (€26.50), but hey, it's a rare Hungarian delicacy you won't eat every day...

Looking elsewhere on the menu, the veal T-bone steak, on the other hand, came in at a much more wallet-friendly Ft 3,500 and was only slightly less tasty.

The immaculately skewered meats with crisp fresh salad made a pleasant summer dish at Ft 2,500.

And there was nothing wrong with the filet steak with liver and lecsó (Ft 3,500) - quite the opposite. After all, we love to overdo it.
And remember, if the prices put you off, the cool air conditioning of the overhanging trees and the shade of the surrounding ruins come absolutely free.
P.S.: Be warned, the picture up top was taken on a Sunday evening, reservations are highly recommended on Fridays and Saturdays.
