Caffeine Junkies in Jittery Anticipation of Two-Day Café Festival

coffee-awards.gifA must-see exhibition for all those interested in coffee and café culture opened today at the Hungarian Museum of Commerce and Catering, with the intriguing name of “Café?! Variations and Changes” (Café?! – Változatok és változások). The exhibit runs until mid-May, so even if you are a serious bean-head, you can take your time. (We’ll post a review sometime next week.) But if you are really serious about coffee and café culture, you should head over tomorrow or Saturday, when the museum will be hosting two days of hyper-caffeinated events, including the announcement of Kávéházak.hu‘s “Café of the Year 2006″ and “Cafés TOP100.”

The fun starts Friday just after lunch, when “practicing coffeeists” can enjoy a “barista” presentation, listen to lectures by coffee industry experts, listen to some live music, and find out which cafes have been given the top honors. On Saturday, the programs, which start at 11:00, will include coffee tasting, another barista presentation, café games, a quiz on the exhibition, and lots of trips to the museum’s recently-refurbished rest rooms.
