Budapest Burgerwar: The Kaledonia Edinburger

Since we kicked off our Budapest Burgerwar™ with an all-American burger, we thought it might be nice to follow it with something all-not-American. So off we went to the District VI Scottish pub and restaurant variously known as the Caledonia/Kaledonia for a taste of what they bill as the "Edinburger."
We've never been to Edinburgh, and thus have no idea what an "Edinburger" is supposed to be like. But this one features the following: A nicely-sized patty of ground sirloin (hátszín) topped with a fried egg and some grated cheese, plus lettuce, tomato, a bit of red onion, and a load of delicious fried potatoes of the sort all-American types insist on calling "fries" even when (as in this case) any damn fool can see they are "chips."
The Caledonia/Kaledonia's E-burger has already gained a degree of fame among the bar's growing number of regulars, and for a good reason. It's a fine burger, even if one is a little put off by that big 'ole egg (which we're sure you don't have to get if you don't want it). Meanwhile, at Ft 1,490 (€6) it is certainly not expensive, especially when you consider that the pub, and the burger, are both rather clearly aimed at foreigner-types. Our only complaints, which are not minor, are that we were never asked how we wanted it cooked (it came out well-done) and that the otherwise tasty bun was too weak for its mission, forcing us to use a knife and fork, a dire burger indignity if there ever was one. But with a little more oomph in the bun, and a simple "how would you like it done?" this could end up putting Budapest's all-American burger mongers all out of business.
How It Stacks Up:

Bun: (3/10)
Trimmings: (9/10)
Service/Setting: (8/10)

Went back on Friday (30/5/2008) for a 2nd go at the Edinburger. Thoroughly enjoyed it, unlike some of the other contestants in the Burgerwar!
Check the Kaledonia Pub again - they have a much better bun on their Edinburger now, making their entry a serious contender for Best Burger in Budapest.
We agree with Gary and the score for our original bun. It was too soft, fell apart with little effort and generally did little to support our ample burger. It took some time to find a suitable bun, but reckon we have. Happy to receive further comment about our 'Edinburger'.
rumour has it you have a scottish chef now too?
Indeed, our new chef Paul Mizener hails from my home town of Edinburgh. He's a Hibs supporter, so I not only have a Scottish accent in my kitchen, but someone I can talk football with.
So you're going to feed them, then put them to sleep ;)
