How’s this for bad wine news: The spiffy little Bortársaság wine shop that only recently set up shop right off of St. István tér around the corner from the Basilica has been closed. The official announcement of the closure says that it is “due to one of life’s new turns,” which, when coupled with the current economic crisis, may lead people to believe it was due to a lack of turnover at the shop, or fears thereof. The truth, however, is even more depressing. According to our sources, the landlord decided not to renew the lease, so he could instead put in a money-changing place. Central Pest winos can console themselves with the fact is that there is an even bigger BT bolt just on the other end of the Chain Bridge, which makes for a great reason to take this most picturesque stroll. Especially since they deliver. Still: boo.
