Big Weekend Ahead for Local Lovers of Pork and Pike

kolbaszfish.jpg

In our latest down-to-the-wire weekend food-festival warning, we draw your attention to not one but two multi-day festivals devoted to a single culinary delicacy particularly beloved in Hungary. First is the famous Csaba Sausage Festival (Csabai Kolbászfesztivál), which runs from tomorrow until Tuesday in its traditional location in Békéscsaba, and which you can read more about here. Less well known is the Szigliget Zander Festival (Szigligeti Süllőfesztivál), which is taking place for only the second time this Sunday and Monday in the Lake Balaton town of Szigliget. If you hadn’t heard of Zander, it’s the fish up top eating the sausage, and is also known in English as a “pike-perch.” And if you hadn’t heard of sausage, it’s the thing the fish is eating.
