Bécsiszelet

Wienerschnitzel

Borjú Bécsiszelet at Café Kör Budapest

Bécsiszelet (“BAY-CHI SAY-LET”), or Wienerschnitzel, literally translates as “Viennese slice,” and is seen on menus across Hungary. It is pounded either medium or paper-thin, and can be made from either sertés (pork), borjú (veal) or pulyka (turkey). Meanwhile, fried cutlets made from pork are often generically known as rántott szelet, or “fried slice.”

The above picture of a borjú bécsiszelet (veal Wienerschnitzel) is from this March, 2007 item on Budapest’s Café Kör restaurant.
