Bakator is (“BA-KA-TOR”) is a white and red variety grown since the 16th century that was traditionally consumed as both a table and a wine grape. The grape originates from Italy, where it went by the name of Baca d’or, meaning “golden berry” although it comes in four common types: white, red, gray and black. Today, Bakator is grown mainly in Badacsony, Neszmély and Nyírség.
