Anniversary "McMadness" Reignites Budapest Burgerwar

As we reported last Friday, global burger giant McDonald's picked today to stage a giant sale to celebrate its 20th anniversary in Hungary, offering Big Macs for the 1988 price of just 43 HUFs, which thanks to two decades of Hungarian inflation, now amounts to just €0.18. While we dutifully huffed our way over to the original Régiposta utca branch of M'Ds, where (we think) the promo was limited to, the crowds were so massive we couldn't get within sniffing distance of one of these happy meals. (Though we did get to enjoy the spectacle of an ambulance pulling up to rescue several patrons who had actually passed out from the excitement of all those cheap burgers.) But all is not lost, because we are using this unusual bit of local burger-related chaos to officially re-start our long-dormant Budapest Burgerwar™. While we won't even try to guess when the battle will finally be over, we're going to shoot for no later than mid-July, or a year after the war was started. And unlike the scene at McD's earlier today, there won't be anyone to swoop in and rescue the casualties.
