Affordable Lobster Luxuries (II): Risotto at Páva

lobster-luxury2.jpg

As we’ve just said, it’s hard to find a good lobster in Hungary, and even harder to be sure that what they say is “lobster” isn’t just some old rák. No such problems at Páva, where we recently dug into the spectacular lobster risotto starter pictured above. As you’d expect from a “Top 33″ regular like Páva, the dish came beautifully presented, with some unexpected touches, in this case a garden-fresh zucchini flower. Our only slight complaint was that the meat itself seemed a tad undercooked in places, though that may just come down to taste (we cut our teeth on New England-style boiled lobster, where the accompanying drawn butter allows the cook to stew the crustacean until you know for sure that it’s good and dead).

Finally, a small disclaimer: the staff seems to know and even like us, so we cannot vouch 1,000% that the plate we had is the same that any old lobsterman or woman who walked in would be presented with. But no matter, because it was so good, and packed with so much of the treasured meat, that even if we got 150% of the normal portion, it would still be worth at least 150% of the price of Ft 4,400 (€16). Get it while it lasts.
