Actually, Do You Have any Frozen Fish on the Menu Today?

Fishing for trouble

Though the above pic won’t come as a shock to most long-time Budapesters, I still get a thrill (or a chill) whenever I see people “cityfishing” in the middle of town. I saw these horgászok while taking a little stroll along the Buda embankment a couple of days ago, where construction crews are busy at work on the vast new sewer system being run under the rakpart to cut down on the untold tons of untreated sewage currently dumped into the river every day. To my surprise, one actually pulled out a nice plump ponty just as I was pulling out my camera. Though maybe I shouldn’t have been surprised – they always say that Tuesday is the best day for fresh fish in local restaurants.

Great article Mr Erik, why not write a book about that topic. Also must say its so nice of Chew.hu to promote the Chestnut Festival in Ágfalvi. Have to say am not so interested in the Őrség International Pumpkin Festival though, or the Jonagold Apple Festival, or the various other fishy smelling events listed here. Do you ever wonder how many people who read this site are interested in such things? Actually, can you say how many people read this site, and where do they live?

  2. Erik says:

Are you kidding – everyone’s who’s anyone is going to be at that Chestnut Festival! Re how many people read Chew.hu just click on the little sitemeter icon at the bottom of the page. What’s interesting is that, before they took their own sitemeter down a few months back, the Budapest Times had almost exactly the same traffic stats as Chew, though not quite as much. Though that’s not surprising, because they don’t have any info on countryside festivals like this.

  3. Robi says:

Well I would not call this “thing” an article
either. But I think that Chew writs about these
Country event is good, to go there is your choice.
But for those locals who lives in Budapest is
great. Some of the western hordes are roaming out
in the country that means for us that if you go to
a restaurant don’t have to listen that whiny complaining over everything all the time D))
